10-Day Writing Sprint

The 10-Day Writing Sprint can breathe new life into your writing by helping you build consistency, focus and momentum.

Write wherever and whenever works best for you. Daily activities are scheduled Monday through Friday, but you may include weekends in your 10 writing days.

Writing includes any scholarly activity, from developing a new idea to polishing a nearly complete project such as an article, grant proposal, exhibit or book chapter.

Event Goals

The 10-Day Writing Sprint is designed to help faculty jump-start their writing productivity through consistent writing, goal-setting and accountability. Participants will make measurable progress on manuscripts, grant proposals, articles and other scholarly projects while developing sustainable writing habits, reducing procrastination and overcoming perfectionism.

The sprint also creates a supportive community of Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ scholars committed to advancing their academic writing. It is open to new and experienced writers.

What You Will Do

During the sprint, you will:

  1. Write for at least 30 minutes a day for 10 days over a two-week period. Activities and announcements are scheduled Monday through Friday, but you may write on weekends if that works better for you.
  2. Join an online community of writers from across Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ for support and accountability.
  3. Log in to the Canvas course, start the timer and complete your writing session.
  4. Post an update to the daily discussion board that includes:
    1. The number of minutes you wrote.
    2. Whether you met your previous goal and, if not, what prevented you from meeting it.
    3. Your goal for your next 30-minute writing session.
  5. Take a minute or two to support other writers by commenting on their progress with encouragement, congratulations or suggestions.
